Voluntourism
Voluntourism is a form of tourism which involves visitors traveling to another destination to volunteer their time, skills, and energy with an organization, issue, or cause as part of a vacation package. It focuses on assisting communities to improve the lives of its residents through specific projects such as education, agriculture, and environment activities. It follows the trend toward economically, environmentally, and socially responsible tourism, with the end goal of improving lives.
Voluntourism provides an opportunity for a more challenging yet rewarding way to explore exotic destinations like the Nature Island. Today’s travelers are demanding tourism with a human face. In Dominica, voluntourism can be used as a vehicle to promote environmental conservation, best practices, and awareness.
